K. S.Chitra

Famous Playback Singer



K.S. Chitra was born in Thiruvananthapuram, capital city of Kerala. A popular playback singer, she has sung more than 11,000 songs in several Indian languages such as Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Hindi, Bengali and Oriya. She learnt the basics of classical music from her father, late Shri Krishnan Nair, a famous singer and composer. She did her graduation in music and was awarded a National Talent Search Scholarship. Later, Chitra was trained by Professor K.Omanakutty who introduced her to playback singing for movies. 'Attahaasam', 'Snehapoorvam Meera' and 'Njaan Ekananu' were some of the first movies she worked for. Chitra got National Award for best playback singer for the movie, 'Sindhu Bhairavi', which gave her a break in Tamil movies. She has won the National Award for the best playback singer five times and has also cut a pop disc 'Voodoo Rapper'.
