K J Yesudas

Popular playback Singer and Carnatic Classical Vocalist



Kattassery Joseph Yesudas, famous playback singer and Carnatic Classical Music Vocalist, was born at Fort Kochi in Kerala on Jan 10, 1940. He mastered music under the tutelage of his father, famous classical musician Augustine Joseph. Later, he earned diploma in Sangeethabhushanam and Ganabhushanam. Yesudas made his debut as a playback singer in Malayalam movie, 'Kalpadukal.' To his credit include over 30,000 songs in various languages. He has made his mark in Bollywood too. A devotee of Lord Ayyappa, he is an established exponent in Carnatic Classical Music and has performed at several concerts in India and abroad. Yesudas has received numerous awards and honors including Padmashree, State Award, Sangeet Natak Akademi Award and National Award.
