Imphal West District




Imphal West District is a tiny plain at the center of Manipur surrounded by the plains of other districts. It has an area of about 558 sq km. It is bounded by Senapati District in the north, Imphal East and Thoubal districts in the east and Thoubal and Bishnupur districts in the south. Imphal West District has a healthful climate. Imphal and Nambul are the main rivers. Imphal West is the center of cultural, commercial and political activities. There are many cultural institutions fostering Manipuri Dance, including Jawaharlal Nehru Dance Academy and Manipuri Jagoi Marup.

Tourist attractions: Women's market or Ima keithel, Manipur Zoological Garden and Manipur State Museum. Yaoshang, Cheiraoba, Baruni, Rath yatra and Ningol Chakouba are the main festivals.
