Chaver Pada was the specially trained suicide squads during the medieval period in
Kerala. Their motto was either kill or be killed.
The right of presiding over the 'Mamangam', held once in 12 years at Thirunavaya resided with the rulers of Valluvanad but this was usurped by the Zamorin of Malabar. People of Valluvanad wanted to take back this right and they formed the 'pada,' without any compulsion.
The members of the squad were highly trained in martial arts. In due course of time, both the Zamorin and rulers of Valluvanad used to send their Chaver Pada for the Mamangam.
