Avinashi Lingeswarar Temple




Avinashi Lingeswarar Temple is a delightful shrine situated at Avinashi, in Coimbatore District, Tamil Nadu. This ancient Shaivite temple dates back to 12th century. The temple enshrines Lord Shiva as the presiding deity. There is a separate worship shrine for Goddess Karunambika.

Built during the Chola period, the temple is regarded as the biggest temple in the district. The temple has been patronized by Pandyas, Hoysala and the Vijayanagar kings. The temple boasts several stone carvings and inscriptions.

The annual Brahmotsavam celebrated in the month of Chittirai (mid April - mid May).

Avinashi Lingeswarar Temple is about 40 km from Coimbatore and can be easily accessed by bus.
