India | Uttar Pradesh | Unnao

Unnao, the administrative headquarters of Unnao District, is an ancient town located between Kanpur and Lucknow, in Uttar Pradesh. Unnao is 93 km south-west of Lucknow and 40 km north-east of Kanpur.

Unnaoís history dates back to about 1000 years. It is thought to have founded by Godo Singh, a Chauhan Rajput, in the 3rd quarter of the 12th century. Unnao came under the British administration in 1857-58 and remained with them until Indiaís independence in 1947.

Bangarmau, Sanchankot, Nawabganj Bird sanctuary and Mogli Water Park are some spots worth visiting outside Unnao town.

Nearest airport is at Lucknow. Unnao Junction Railway Station is on the Kanpur-Lucknow line. National Highway 25 passes through the town.
