Baksar

About 5 km south of Daundia Khera and 51 km south-east of Unnao on the left bank of the Ganges lies Baksar, the southernmost village in Unnao District. The place derived its name from a Sanskrit word Bakasram denoting the residence of Baka, a demon. He is believed to have founded a town at the site of the present village, lived here, and also erected a temple to Nageshwar Nath Mahadev. Baka is said to have been killed by lord Krishna more than 5000 years ago. Another story behind the derivation of the village name is associated with Raja Abhai Chand, a Bais Rajput who conquered the place, named it after the shrine of Bakeshwar Mahadev and made it its capital. The ruins of a temple and several broken images are found strewn about in the village. A bathing fair is annually celebrated here on the full moon day of Kartika, attended by a large number of people.
