With its salubrious environs, Kodaikanal is the most sought after hill station in South India. It lies at an altitude of 6,854 ft and is around 120 km west of
Madurai. Surrounded by thick Shola forests, it is also known as Kodai and is south India’s best trekking terrain. Several educational institutions of international repute are located at Kodaikanal.
A glistening lake, long-leafy walks, English-style stone-and-wood cottages tucked deep within vast flower-filled gardens and the famous
kurinji flower’ are the magnets that attracts hordes of tourist to Kodaikanal. Bryant Park, Shenbaganur Museum, Kodai Lake, Pillar Rocks, Coakers Walk, Kurinji Andavar Temple, Silver Cascade waterfall, Fairy Falls and
Bear Shola falls are the prime attractions. Kodaikanal also houses a golf club. The temple town of Palani is a nearby attraction.
The nearest airport is at Madurai. The nearby railheads are Dindigul Junction Railway Station (64 km) and Kodai Road (89 km). By road, Kodaikanal is linked with Chennai (520 km), Ooty (264 km), Tiruchirapalli(197 km), Coimbatore (175 km), Madurai and Dindigul (100 km).
The best time to visit is between April and June or between August and October.
