National School of Drama




National School of Drama started functioning in 1959 at Nizamuddin (West), under the governance of the Sangeet Natak Akademi. It became an independent organization, under the control of the Ministry of Education and Culture - Department of Culture, with the name 'National School of Drama' in 1975.

The school had established a theater, Sanskar Rang Toli, in 1989. It is committed to fulfill all the needs of the young generation, related to the arts. The school has a training-cum-teaching center, repertory company - a regular performing wing of the school, administrative block, extension programs center, publication cell, various technical departments, book shop, students' mess, auditoriums, separate hostels for boys and girls and a guest house.

Courses in modern Indian drama, classical Indian drama and aesthetics, western drama, yoga, acting, scenic designing, costume designing, make-up, stage lighting, theater music, theater architecture and production process are offered there.

Annual festival of National School of Drama is celebrated in the name of 'Bharat Rang Mohatsav'.

The nearest airport is the Indira Gandhi International Airport, about 20 km south of New Delhi. The nearest railway station is the Nizamuddin Railway station, around 3 km from the city.
