Thirumuruganpoondi




Thirumuruganpoondi is a small hamlet situated about five kilometers from Avinashi in Coimbatore District, Tamil Nadu. The village covers an area of 15 sq km. Avinashi and Tirupur are neighboring towns.

Legends say that Lord Muruga, son of Lord Shiva and Parvati, installed a Shivling in Thirumuruganpoondi and worshipped it. Arulmigu Thirumurugananthaswamy Thirukoil, dating back to the 9th century, is the main attraction of Thirumuruganpoondi. Samalapuram, Palladam, Somanur and Sulur are nearby places. Thirumuruganpoondi can be approached from Coimbatore and Tirupur by road. The nearest airport is C A Coimbatore Airport and the nearest railway station is Tiruppur Railway Station.
