Arcot




Located on the banks of the Palar River, Arcot is a taluk headquarters in Vellore District. This prominent town lies on the National Highway 46 between Vellore and Ranipet. Vellore is 23 km west and Ranipet is 5 km east.

Arcot is the first important fortified town captured by the British soldier Robert Clive in order to gain control over India in the French-British struggle of 1751.
