Aranthangi lies at a distance of 34 km from Pudukkottai. It is the second largest town in Pudukkottai District.

A ruined fort constructed out of mud is the major attraction. The fort is believed to have been built by the Tondaimans, during the 15th and 16th centuries. An eleventh-century temple of Rajendra Chola Varma is another interest. Nearby attractions are the Palk Straits (23 km), Avudiyar Koil (15 km) - ancient temple with sculptures and drawings, and the 100-year-old Oiyur St.Arulunadar Church (40 km).

Aranthangi is connected to Chennai, Cuddalore, Villupuram, Chidambaram, Mayiladudurai, ThiruthuraiPoondi, Pattukottai through meter gauge rail line. Buses ply from Aranthangi to Chennai, Villupuram, Trichy, and Pudukottai.
