Pemayangtse



Pemayangtse is a charming town and an important Buddhist religious center in West Sikkim District, Sikkim. Perched at an altitude of 6,000 ft above sea level, in the lap of Himalayas, the place is a favored tourist spot and an ideal locale for trekking and hiking enthusiasts. Pemayangtse is situated 75 km north of Darjeeling and is about 120 km west of Gangtok.

Major point of attraction here is the Pemayangtse Monastery, the second oldest of its kind in the state. A stroll around the picturesque surroundings, set against the back drop of picturesque mountains, enchanting glaciers and numerous shrubs of the exotic rhododendron, is an experience of unsurpassable allure and a panacea for one's soul and spirit.

The Losar Festival celebrated here in the month of February/March every year, marking the Tibetan New Year, is a major draw.

Civil Enclave Bagdogra is the closest airport. Siliguri Junction Railway Station serves Pemayangtse.
