Meli




Meli is a town located in West Sikkim District. Meli basically means 'a lepcha village'. The main attraction is the Meli Monastery and it is also an ideal place for trekking.

The Teesta Bridge, built across the river Teesta that joins Kalimpong with Darjeeling is situated here. It is one of the oldest arch bridges built in this part of India. Meli Bazaar (Teesta Bazaar) is the main shopping area of the place.

Buses from Gangtok ply on the National Highway 31A via Singtam, Legship towards Geyzing touching Meli. Another road to Meli is from Siliguri in West Bengal which passes through Coronation Bridge, Teesta Bazar, and Jorethang.

The nearest airport is at Bagdogra and the railway station is at Jalpaiguri.
