Sirhind

Dotted with beautiful mosques and tombs noted for their architectural splendor, Sirhind is located in Fatehgarh Sahib District of Punjab. It is 45 km west of Chandigarh.

During the latter half of 14th century, Sirhind was the regional headquarters of Ferozeshah Tughluq and he built many edifices including the Ferozeshah Fort. Sirhind reached its zenith of glory during the reigns of Akbar and Jahangir.

It was at Sirhind the two brave lads of Guru Gobind Singh were entombed alive inside a brick-wall for refusing to embrace Islam by Ferozeshah Tughluq. Gurdwara Fathegarh Sahib built on the spot commemorates the victory or 'fateh' of the two souls who refused to abandon their faith.

Aam Khas Bhag, Rauza Sharif, Gurdwara Jyoti Swarup, Burj of Mata Gujri, Tombs of Mir Miran and Taj Bibi, and Haveli Todar Mal are the main attractions of Sirhind.

Nearest airport is at Chandigarh. Sirhind Junction Railway Station is on the Ludhiana-Ambala mainline. National Highway 1 passes nearby.
