Jajpur District

Jajpur was the capital of the erstwhile Kalinga kingdom. It had reached the pinnacle of glory in archeological excellence in that period. Jajpur District is situated on the banks of the Baitarani River. Jajpur is mentioned in the epic of the Mahabharata as the place where the creator God Brahma performed a massive sacrifice, and as the pitha [seat] of the Goddess Viraja, the passionless.

Jajpur District has an area of 2,885 sq km, sheltering about 1.6 million people. It is rich in natural resources and is home to many industries and mines. Jajpur, the headquarters town, is a historic place of pilgrimage.

Ashokajhar, Langudi Hill, Gokarnika, Mahavinayak, Chandikhol, Patharajpur, Ratnagiri and Siddheswar Temple are some of the places worth visiting.
