Viraja




Goddess Viraja is one of the incarnations of Durga, the consort of Lord Shiva. She is regarded as the mother Goddess and is a prominent deity in the Shakti cult. Her mention is found in great scriptures like the Mahabharata and the Puranas.

Goddess Viraja is the presiding deity of Jajpur in Orissa, one of the Shaktipithas. This city has numerous temples dedicated to the goddess.
