Ulhasnagar

Hometown of the Sindhis in India, Ulhasnagar is located 5 km south of Kalyan on the banks of Ulhas River in Thane District of Maharashtra. The place is also known as Sindhunagar.

After the partition of India, over 1,00,000 Sindhi refugees from the newly created Pakistan were relocated in the military camps here. In 1949, the place was converted into a township and today it holds around 4,00,000 Sindhis.

The phenomenal growth that had taken place in the industrial and commercial scenario has led it to being referred as 'Mini Hong Kong'. The main attraction here is a market known as Japani Bazaar.

Mumbai is around 60 km south-west. Nearest airport is Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport. Ulhasnagar Railway Station is on the Pune-Mumbai line of Central Railways. Nearest major railhead is Kalyan Junction Railway Station.
