Bandra

Bandra, known as the 'queen of suburbs', is an idyllic township situated in the south-west corner of the island of Salsette in Mumbai, Maharashtra. It was the first of the city’s then outskirts to offer a credible lifestyle alternative to South Mumbai. Bandra is located 10 km north of Mumbai Central Railway Station and is about 7 km west of Kurla.

Bandra owes its development to the construction of a causeway that bridged the Mahim Creek, connecting the place with Mahim. Soon it was invaded by people from over crowded areas of Mumbai; now this Catholic dominated area is one of the most cosmopolitan regions in the city.

Major landmark of Bandra is the ancient Mount Mary Basilica. For shopping freaks, the Linking Road is lined with many footwear and leather goods shops while the jewelry shops located on Waterfield Road caters to those on a jewel hunt. Band Stand is ideal for a leisurely stroll in the evening. Jogger’s Park is situated to the other end of Band Stand.

Bandra is some times referred to ‘the Restaurant Suburb of Mumbai’, alluding to the numerous eat-outs that had mushroomed in the area, over the years. The Mc Donald’s outlet at Linking Road is a popular hangout among city youths.

Bandra (West) is considered a fashionable suburb while Bandra (East) is more of a commercial center – the Bandra-Kurla complex is located here.

Hotel Executive Enclave, Hotel Regent, Hotel Rang Sharada, Hotel Metro Palace and Hotel Taj Lands End are some good hotels located in and around Bandra.

Bandra has 2 entry points to reach – the Hill Road and Reclamation Road. Bandra Terminus Station is situated on the Church GateAndheri suburban rail route of Western Railways. It also has long distant trains.

Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport is about 8 km to the north-east of Bandra. Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus is around 15 km south.
