Noted for the vast expanses of coffee estates, Mananthavady is a historic town situated 32 km from Kalpetta.

Mananthavady assumes its historic importance as the resting place of Pazhassi Raja, who fought valiantly against the British. The tomb of Pazhassi Raja and a park constructed in his memory are the major landmarks in the town. An ancient Church designed in traditional Kerala style, with gabled roofs, is a major draw of the town. The Church premises house some interesting tombstones.

Located in Wayanad District of Kerala, Mananthavady is an ideal weekend getaway. Excursions around the town include Pakshipathalam (10 km), Thirunelly Temple (32 km), Valliyoorkavu Bhagavathi Temple (8 km), Kuruva Island (17 km), Boys Town (15 km) and Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary-Tholpetty (24 km).

Nearest airport is at Kozhikode (110 km), which is also the closest major railway station. Mananthavady has regular buses to Kozhikode, Kannur, Kodagu, Payyanur and Thalassery.
