Byculla

Sandwiched between Mazagaon and Parel, Byculla is a lower-middle class hub of Mumbai. It is 2 km north of Mumbai Central.

The place was home to many textile mills, but now most of these mills are desolated. Byculla Club opened in 1833 was Mumbai's first residential club. The city zoo known as Veermata Jijamata Prani Sangrahalay or Ranichi Baug is located at Rani Jijamata Udyan in Byculla. It was earlier called Victoria Gardens. Veermata Jijamata Museum (earlier Victoria and Albert Museum), built in 1871, is another point of interest. Rodef Shalom Synagogue, Byculla Vegetable Market, the largest vegetable market in Mumbai, and Grant Medical College are also housed here.

Churchgate is 6 km south. Mahalaxmi is west and Cotton Green is north-east of Byculla. Byculla Railway Station is on the Sandhurst Road-Curry Road line.

Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport is 20 km north. Nearest major railhead is Mumbai Central Railway Station. Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus Railway Station is around 5 km south.
