Markhor

Markhor (Capra falconeri) is the largest goat species. It bears long sharp-keeled horns twisted into a tight or open spiral.

It has grizzled light brown to black coat, which is smooth and short in summer, growing longer and thicker in winter. Males have long hair on the chin, throat, chest and shanks, while females have smaller fringes. The males have a long neck mane, pantaloons and strong markings. The lower legs have a black and white pattern.

The adult weighs up to 100 kg. The animal can be spotted in Hirapora Wildlife Sanctuary, Jammu and Kashmir, and in the Western Himalayas.
