Hirapore Wildlife Sanctuary



Hirapora Wildlife Sanctuary is situated on the Pir Panjal Range of Pulwama District and is 70 km south of Srinagar.

The sanctuary is bordered by Gumsar Lake in the north, Hirapora Village in the north-east, Rupri Forest in the east, Saransar Lake in the south and Pir Panjal Pass in the west.

It was established in 1987 with the aim to protect the wildlife around the Pir Panjal Range. Occupying an area of 11,000 hectares, the sanctuary is home to a variety of animals such as markhor, rhesus macaque, red fox, common otter and yellow-throated marten. It is also a habitat for various birds.
