Sonipat District



Sonipat District, lies in the south-east of Haryana, has an area of 2,122 sq km. The Yamuna runs through the eastern boundary of Sonipat. According to the legend, Sonipat was one of the five towns demanded by Yudhishtira from Duryodhana. Another belief is that Raja Soni laid the foundation for the Sonipat city.

Sonipat is primarily rural in nature and the occupation of the people is agriculture. Sri Gita Bhawan Mandir, Nirankari Sant Bhawan, Sri Ram Mandir, Ibadat Khana Idgah, and Methodist Mission Church are the main places of worship. Murthal, Ganaur and Rai are worth visiting.
