Krishna River

Krishna River originates in the Western Ghats near Mahabaleshwar in Maharashtra, at an altitude of 1,336 m above the sea level. It then flows east through the states of Maharashtra, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh for a distance of 1400 km before merging in the Bay of Bengal at Hamasaladeevi in Andhra Pradesh.

Two dams, Srisailam and Nagarjunasagar, are constructed across Krishna River. Though the river has a dozen tributaries, Tungabhadra is the noteworthy of the lot. Other tributaries include the Koyna, Bhima, Mallaprabha, Ghataprabha, Yerla, Warna, Dindi, Musi and Dudhganga rivers.
