Yajnavalkya Upanishad is one of the 108
Upanishads, a minor Upanishad belonging to the
Shukla-Yajurveda. This Upanishad is in the form of a conversation between
sage Yajnavalkya and King Janaka regarding renunciation. The process of renunciation is described in detail. This Upanishad also advises on how one without the sacred thread of a
brahmin can assume the state of a brahmin.
Yajnavalkya points out the various temptations that may waylay one in the path of asceticism, and persuades the true seeker of the ultimate reality, not to be enmeshed in such traps but adopt the path of true renunciation.
