Vyavahara Sutra




Vyavahara Sutra is an important text in the Jain canonical literature. It belongs to a collection of texts containing the rules and guidelines to be followed by the monks and nuns, which are collectively termed as Cheda Sutras.

Vyavahara Sutra deals with the manner in which the monks and nuns should confess for their bad deeds. It explains the kind of feeling that should be brought about while making the confession. The text also mentions about the qualification of the monk or nun to whom the confession is made. There is a detailed account of how the sinner should repent on the bad deeds. Apart from the sins and their related repentance, this text points out the limits in ascetic life.
