Lalla was an eminent astrologer and mathematician of ancient India. He is believed to have been born in 720 and died around the year 790. He was an adherent follower of Aryabhata (an eminent astronomer).
Lalla’s notable works include Shishyadhividdhidatantra, a work on astronomy in two volumes. The first volume explains the computation of planetary positions, conjunctions of the planets with each other and fixed stars, eclipses and other related topics. The second volume concentrates on the sphere and the related computations and principles applied in astronomy. Lalla’s other major works include Jyotisaratnakosa, a book on astrology, and a commentary on Khandakhadyaka (a work of Brahmagupta, another mathematician and astrologer).
