Kolathunad was an ancient kingdom in
Kerala, which included the areas of the present day
Kannur and
Kasargod districts. These areas were under separate line of rulers known as the Mooshaka kings. By the 14th century, this old Mooshaka kingdom had came to be known as Kolathunad and the rulers as
Kolathiris.
