Karunagappally is 27 km north of Kollam on the National Highway 47. Padayanarkulangara situated nearby was the military station of the Kayamkulam Rajas. The place houses a Shiva temple and the Matha Amrithanandamayi Ashram is nearby.

Trivandrum International Airport is the nearest airport. Karunagappally Railway Station is on the Thiruvananthapuram- Ernakulam line.
