Jalandhar

Sports city of India



Jalandhar city got its name from a demon Jalandhar, as mentioned in the Puranas. It is an ancient city with a modern look and retains its antiquity amidst high commercial activity.

Jalandhar is known for its sportsmen as well as its flourishing sports industry. The city has many historical monuments including the mausoleum of Imam Nasir and the fort at Phillaur. Some of the tourist attractions of the city are Shiv Mandir, Catholic Cathedral, Nurmahal and Nakodar. The Gurdwara at Kartarpur is located about 16 km from Jalandhar where a fair is organized to commemorate the birth anniversary of Guru Nanak. The most notable event in Jalandhar is the annual Harballabh Fair. Another ancient monument in Jalandhar is the temple of Vrinda, which is now known as the Tulsi Mandir.
