Thirumayam is a picnic spot, 19 km from
Pudukkottai. The main attractions of the place are the fort, and the
Shiva and
Vishnu temples. The fort, set in 40 acres has great historical importance. It was built by Sethupathi Vijaya Ragunatha Thevar, the Sethupathi of
Ramanathapuram in 1687 AD. The rock cut Shiva temple is situated on the hill with music inscription and the relics of a fort. The Vishnu temple is on the foot of the hill and is the largest Anantasayi group in India.
