Raigad District




Raigad is one of the most industrialized districts in Maharashtra. With an area of 7,162 sq km, the district has a population of over 2 million. Marathi, Hindi, English and Konkani are the languages spoken. Raigad was the capital of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The temperature varies from 22o C to 30o C. Bhajan, Keertan, Koli Dance and Bharud are the major folk-arts. The famous hill station Matheran and the first Technology University of Maharashtra are situated in Raigad District. Raigad, Kulaba Fort, Murud-Janjira Fort and Karnala Bird Sanctuary are the major tourist attractions.
