Sahibganj, the administrative headquarters of Sahibganj District, is an old town situated one mile off the southern bank of the Ganges, in the north-eastern region of Rajmahal subdivision, in Jharkhand. It has been the sub-divisional headquarters since 1944 and has a municipality formed in 1883. Sahibganj is around 300 km north-east of Ranchi.
Places of tourist interest include the ‘Bhagwa Kuan’ – a well constructed in the memory of Edward VII, in 1815 and a hill at the eastern end of the town, which heralds a lot of historic importance.
The nearest airport is Ranchi Airport at Ranchi (277 km). Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose International Airport is 303 km south-east. Sahibganj Junction Railway Station is a prominent railhead of the district.
