Dhrangadhra

Dhrangadhra is a small town in Surendranagar District of Gujarat. It is famous for salt and cotton trade. The town was once the capital of the local kingdom of Halvad- Dhrangadhra, and is renowned for architecture influenced by local history. Dhrangadhra is 90 km west of Ahmedabad.

Temples, step wells, palaces and mosques from various historical periods adds to the historic value of Dhrangadhra. Ancient art and craft traditions and religious shrines make this town famous. Majority of the population are farmers and shopkeepers.

The sunken garden at Halvad palace built in the 16th century, the mardana courtyard of the 19th century Ajitnivas palace, and the entrance of the modern Jain temple are the main tourist attractions at Dhrangadhra. During each summer, the outskirts of the town houses a camp of snake charmers. They congregate each year to conduct marital alliances. Little Rann of Kutch Wildlife Sanctuary is 25 km from Dhrangadhra.

Dhrangadhra is well connected to the state capital of Ahmedabad by road and rail. Auto-rickshaws are commonly used for traveling within the town.
