Eluru, previously called as Ellora city, is located in West Godavari District of Andhra Pradesh and is about 65 km northeast of Vijayawada. It is a district administrative center and is situated at the junction of the Krishna and Godavari canal systems. Eluru remained as a part of the Buddhist Kingdom called Vengi and was ruled by Chalukya, Kalinga, and Gajapathi dynasties.
Situated on the border of the
Kolleru Lake, Eluru is a place of historical importance. A number of historical monuments are seen in and around Eluru. It is also a hub of commercial activities such as carpet making, tanning and textile manufacturing.
Dwaraka Tirumala, an important pilgrim center is located nearby.
Eluru Railway Station is on the Vijayawada-Visakhapatnam line.
