Woolaobi

Woolaobi is an indigenous game of Manipur. This outdoor game is mainly played by females. It has some similarity with the technique used in the Kabaddi, especially the outline principles of the game. Woolaobi is now became a source of talents in Kabaddi.

Normally, Woolaobi takes place on the open spaces, which is not marked, available within the premises of house and temple. According to the local tradition, Umang Lai Hetloi Taret (seven sylvan deities) played this game on the courtyard of the temple of Umang Lairembi.

To play Woolaobi, the participants are divided into two groups. The players are known by two names, the Raiders (attacker) and the Defenders (avoider). A Raider has to say 'woo' and to touch the Avoiders at the same time. If the Raider fails to say 'woo' by holding breathe, she is declared as out of the game. Also if the Raider touches an Avoider, then Avoider is out. This action continues till all Avoiders out or surrender.
