Victoria Memorial Home

Yateem Khana-e-Victoria

Victoria Memorial Home, located at Hyderabad in Andhra Pradesh, functions as an orphanage and a vocational school. It was originally meant to be the palace of Mir Mahaboob Ali Khan, the sixth Nizam of Hyderabad. However, when the Nizam fell ill during a visit to this building, he considered it ill omen and abandoned the plans for residing here. It was converted into orphanage in memory of Queen Victoria, who died around the same year. Currently this orphanage, which is one of the largest in Andhra Pradesh, houses a school for the less privileged. The magnificent building featuring high ceiling, huge halls and rooms is noted for its exquisite architecture. It is rectangular in shape, measuring 420 feet in length, 285 feet in width and 32 feet in height. A main feature of the building is its long corridor.
