Venur




Venur is a small town situated in Dakshina Kannada District, about 70 km from the northeast of Mangalore, 30 km from Dharmasthala and 19 km from Belthangady. It is an important pilgrim spot famous for its Bahubali Temple where one can see the huge 38 ft tall statue of Bahubali (Gomateshwara) installed in 1605 by an Anjila prince. There are the ruins of the Mahadev Shiva Temple and eight Jain temples (Basadis/Bastis), the largest Basti dedicated to Shantinatha. Moodabidri, also called Jaina Kashi, lies nearby.

Venur is connected by road to other cities and towns nearby. The nearest airport and railhead are at Mangalore.
