Vengishwarar Temple




Vengishwarar Temple, dedicated to Lord Shiva, is located at Kodambakkam in Chennai. Sage Vyagrapada is believed to have worshipped Lord Shiva at this place and the temple is also known as Vyagrapurishwarar Temple.

The main shrine and the vimana are apsidal in shape, dating back to the Chola age. The shrine of Goddess Shantanayaki also belongs to Chola era.

Besides, there are shrines for Lord Ganesh, Lord Muruga with his consorts; Bhairava, Sanisvara and Navagrahas. The temple, with a single prakara faces east and has a beautiful seven-tiered rajagopuram.
