Veeranatyam

Veeranatyam is the dance of Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva was very much upset by the humiliation meted out Sati Devi and he picked a relic out of his ‘Jata’, which is the Sanskrit word for hair, and created Veerabhadra. The dance is performed by the Veeramusti community of Andhra Pradesh, who are the followers of Veerabhadra. The devotees perform the dance by holding a sword and shield, accompanied by an instrument called Viranam, which is similar to sounds of war drums and trumpets.
