Veeranarayana Temple

Veeranarayana Temple, the biggest Trikutachala built by the Hoysalas, is situated at Belawadi village which is about 20 km from Belur. The main deity of the temple is Veeranarayana. Venugopala and Yoganarasimha are also worshipped here. The 152 pillars each differing either in the number of tube-like curves, smooth finish or in the degree of gloss constitute the most striking feature. The roof of the temple is elaborately adorned with carvings of various flowers, especially the ekkada hoovu, which is believed to be the favourite flower of Suryanarayana.

The temple is designed in such a way that on March 23 the sun's rays will fall on the Veeranarayana idol.

Belur is 222 km west of Bangalore and 38 km northwest of Hassan. Belur is well-connected by road and rail to Hassan, which lies on the National Highway 48. The nearest airport is at Bangalore.
