Veeragaase




Veeragaase is a folk dance form of Karnataka. It is mainly performed by the devotees of Lord Shiva. The dance form also includes a ritual of piercing the mouth with a needle.

Usually the dancers will be in groups of two, four or six, holding a sword. The leading singer of the group recites the epic Dakshayajna. The rhythmic music is provided with a drumming instrument. Other musical instruments used for the performance are cymbals and Shehnai (wind pipes).
