Vandiperiyar is the largest town the river Periyar touches on its mountainous way to the Idukki reservoir. It is located 18 km from Thekkady.
As a major trade center, the town is home to a number of tea factories. The Government Agriculture Farm and Flower Garden are there. The vegetable markets are mostly on the road sides. Major plantation groups like RBT, AVT, and Harisson's Malayalam have tea plantations near Vandiperiyar.
