Vallikattu Dayara

Vallikattu Dayara is an important pilgrim center situated at Vakathanam, a small serene village in Kottayam District. Vakathanam is about 15 km from Kottayam.

The Dayara was formerly a church built in 1868 by Pulikottil Joseph Mar Dionysios II. At some later time (in 1875), the church was developed into a Dayara by Ramban Geevarghese Karuchira, who resided in the Church. It was renovated in 1982 by His Holiness Baselios Mar Thoma Mathews I Bava.

Vallikattu Dayara houses the tomb of His Holiness Baselios Geevarghese I Catholicos, who died in 1928. The important feast days for the Dayara are August 15 (Shunoyo Feast) and December 17 (anniversary of Catholica II).
