Validayanathar Temple




Situated at Tiruvalidayam in Chennai District is the Validayanathar Temple. The temple is one of the 275 Shivasthalams in Tamil Nadu. Covering an area of one acre, the temple contains a three tiered Rajagopuram and a Gajaprishta vimana. The temple deities are Lord Shiva in the form of Validayanathar and Goddess Thayammai. The Sthala Teertham is Validhayam. Saint Sambandar is said to have composed pathigams in praise of Validayanathar. The main festival is the annual Brahmotsavam celebrated in the month of Chittirai (mid April - mid May). The nearest travel base is Chennai, 13 km away.
