Vajikarana

The Science of Aphrodisiac in Ayurveda

Vajikarana is the branch of Ayurveda which deals with various diseases like infertility and conditions relating to weak shukra dhatu or the vital reproductive fluids of the body. This science highlights the importance of creating healthy progeny. The text prescribes effective formulations to provide nutrition and to enhance the quality of the vital body fluids, and lays stress on following a highly disciplined life.

This branch of ayurveda advocates that celibacy is essential for good health. According to this science, the shukra dhatu has a direct link with ojas or strength / inherent vitality. Vajikarana prescribes the therapeutic use of various aphrodisiacs and tonic preparations for enhancing the vigor and reproductive capabilities of men. These medicines also strengthen other body tissues (dhatus) like muscles, fats, bones, and blood. The vajikarana drugs are expected to provide offspring who are healthy and strong, both physically and mentally.
