Vaishnavite Silks




Vaishnavite Silks is produced by the tribal groups of Assam. Traditional method is used to integrate geometric designs in silk cloths. A complex Lampa technique is used to make Vaishnavite silks.

Different avatars of Lord Vishnu and bands of Bengali script are inscribed in Assamese style. The drawing of the figures is fine and well conceived with an interesting variation of scale between rows.

Vaishnavite silk plays an important role in the worship of Vishnu.
