Situated five km from Hospet
, there is an ancient temple of Anantapadmanabha of Vijayanagara Period. The chief deity at Ananthasayanagudi is Anantapadmanabha sleeping on Adisesha
, the divine serpent. The temple complex within a rectangular prakara or enclosure is decorated with a majestic entrance with three gateways, on the north, south and west. To the south-east of the temple complex, there is a shrine dedicated to the goddess Ammavaragudi, and a beautiful little Kalyanamantapa. The remains of the temple reflect the architectural excellence of a bygone era.
