Ushakothi Sanctuary

Badrama Sanctuary



Ushakothi Sanctuary, also known as Badrama Sanctuary, is situated in Sambalpur District of Orissa. It is 45 km north-east of Sambalpur and about 200 km from Rourkela.

Stretching over 130 sq km, it is one of the smaller sanctuaries in Orissa. Inhabitants include wild elephants, leopards, tigers, sambar deer, gaur, spotted deer, wild bears, bison and black panthers. Watchtowers are erected in the sanctuary. To the west of Ushakothi Sanctuary lies Hirakud Dam.

October to April is ideal to visit the sanctuary. Accommodation is available at the Forest Rest House (FRH) in Badrama.

Sambalpur Railway Station is the nearest railhead.
